With a legacy dating back to 1921, GearGrid—formerly known as Wire Specialties and later Mid-Minnesota Wire—began its journey by specializing in custom retail displays and wire forms. In 1997, GearGrid co-owner and volunteer firefighter, Mike Boyer, designed a durable and well-ventilated locker system for the proper storage of his department’s turnout gear. Recognizing a wider industry need for improved firefighting gear storage, GearGrid launched the American-made product in 1998.

Over the next decade, GearGrid cemented its reputation as the leader in firefighting equipment storage by combining relentless innovation with a customer-first approach. In 2002, the company expanded its product line to address the full range of fire department storage needs—including hose and cylinder systems, workstations, and general equipment storage.
